PROFESSIONAL DISCLOSURE STATEMENT
Philosophy and Approach: I believe that everyone contains the ability to reach maximum potential for their life. I believe that you as an individual are the authority of your life, and author of your own experiences. It is my duty as your Professional Counselor to provide an unconditional amount of support and respect for your life, and your experiences. I will also provide for you a non-judgmental confidential atmosphere, giving you a safe and trusting environment to tell your story, and allow the therapy process to unfold within your comfort level ensuring effective and responsible treatment that will take place in a time honored manner. At times the therapy process can be painful, bringing to the surface emotions that can be hard to confront. As your counselor, I will gently coach and challenge you in assisting you to make your desired life changes, while keeping your privacy and safety, your comfort level, and your desired goals in mind. As your counselor, I will help you reframe and clarify your stories, to allow you and I a clear understanding of your life, in order to reach your desired outcome. It will be my goal to provide families, children, couples and groups with counseling services through a professional, therapeutic relationship; to help others, you, to gain an understanding of personal problems; to help you define goals and develop plans that reflect your needs and concerns as related to your personal, social, career and educational growth; to utilize evidence based treatment which has been researched with positive outcomes and be used according to your needs. I will document the ongoing assessment of your needs, strengths and gains so that your therapeutic movement can be determined. I will incorporate into our sessions the most Holistic methods of counseling, which may include an Experiential Person-Centered approach, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Counseling Therapy (SFCT). There may also be the use of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), where in using DBT, we will take a look at behaviors that specifically interfere with your quality of life, and your ability to recognize emotions, and process those emotions that lead to undesirable outcomes, while continuing to validate you as the client throughout the process. Meditation is another therapy modality that may be introduced and encouraged, where meditation consists of your comfort level that may involve nature, music, dance, exercise, prayer, and specific meditation. Deep breathing exercises may also be introduced and encouraged that may accompany meditation or they may act on their own. The counseling theories and techniques that will be used will relate to the assessment of your needs, so that we can facilitate the necessary changes in your thinking, feeling and behavior patterns, so as to enhance and empower you. Additionally, my approach to counseling is holistic involving mindfulness, meditation (as client resonates with meditation) and a flexibility that allows us to find the approach that works best for you.
