A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO COUNSELING SERVICES THROUGH MINDFULNESS which may include MEDITATION
Individual
Every human has an incredible amount of potential for their lives. Sometimes it can be hard to see your maximum potential. Issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, addiction, abuse, trauma, PTSD, specializing in Active Military and Veterans PTSD. As well, the uncertainty of facing life transitions (divorce, loss of loved one(s), loss of job, to name only a few) can interfere with one reaching desired goals and changes in life. The services that will be provided for you will start with a value for your life in a caring and non-judgmental atmosphere, and will result in your recognition that you are the author of your own life. Change can start now!
Another aspect of counseling available through Siuslaw Valley Counseling is personalized life-coaching for men and women who have experienced a major life event (i.e., divorce, breakup, job loss, corporate downsizing, death of a loved one). It is said today more than ever that you cannot live a positive life with a negative mind. If you are ready to rebuild your life from the foundations and if it feels as though your life needs a major overhaul/remodel, you can revamp and redesign your life , starting with EXACTLY what life presents to you in the moment, today! Are you willing to dream a bigger dream for yourself? Do you have a vision of how you wish your life to be? Then, by making plans to achieve that dream and getting into incremental action -- you really can change your life!!! I would be honored to assist you in helping yourself on your journey toward positive change.
Military individuals, couples, family, children with or without PTSD, with or without Drug/Alcohol Addiction(s), I am able to connect and resonate with the military person, family and children, as I have journeyed a military life as a military spouse/significant other since 1988. I may not have a full understanding of everyone's individual journey, however, I am able to communicate and have an open heart and mind of the military life, in and out of active duty.
Couples Counseling
As life changes, so do couples. Helping couples understand that there is a normal change process throughout the stages of a partnership can be very comforting. Learning how to communicate effectively to strengthening the bond and friendship between partners are some of the many benefits to couples counseling.
Children & Adolescents
Kids express themselves in a very different way than adults do, which often appears as behavioral issues. We have a variety of techniques and skills that help bring out the expression of emotions and feeling in children and adolescents. These techniques include fun activities such as art, drawing, expressive writing and games. The skills used and taught, help teach kids how to affectively express their emotions in a healthy manner, reducing conflict with peers and family members, providing an overall sense of well being.
Family Counseling
Family counseling can be very beneficial to help reinstate communication, boundaries and roles within the family unit. Family counseling is also recommended as an addition to couples counseling, individual counseling, or if a child is receiving therapeutic services.
Group Counseling
Group counseling provides a safe environment in which one can experiment with new behaviors, improve communication skills, and receive feedback from other students with similar concerns and interests. Some groups focus on specific skills and themes while others provide support for specific groups of participants. Some of the groups offered by SVC require that one complete an initial intake session with the group leader in order to carefully assess appropriateness of the group for ones needs. Other groups are considered "drop-in groups" and have no requirements for participation. Research documents group therapy's power in helping people with many types of issues.
Why someone would choose Group Counseling instead of Individual is due to the benefits that group counseling can provide, which are:
- allows one to be less isolated as one works on their issues
- helps one realize they are not alone in their struggles
- provides multiple perspectives on issues and how one is seen by others
- provides an ideal means for practicing and learning new interpersonal behaviors
- helping others helps one to see their own issues differently and to feel one has something to offer others.
