My journey into counseling began shortly after the passing of my mother, Lynne Genevieve Scoggin Grigsby, November 18, 2008, my friend, my mentor, my spiritual enlightener. I dedicate my counseling education and continued professional counseling journey in her memory (it was her idea afterall). Additionally without the unconditional love, support and encouragement of my father, Forrest Gordon Grigsby, I would not have been able to make this journey. I say a loud, joyous and thundering "thank you" . . . to the two best parents a daughter could ever have, their soulmate relationship in marriage and in life together, over 52 years, is a testament to who I am, their daughter.
Philosophy: I believe that everyone holds the tools to reach their maximum potential in life. Sometimes we get stuck, needing guidance, direction and support. These are some of the many benefits that counseling can provide for you. During our sessions together we will take a look at behaviors which interfere with your quality of life. Therapy can allow you to take on a new perspective of your current situation, and guide you on the path toward growth and change. During our sessions together we will explore the desired changes you wish to achieve, and together we will formulate goals and a plan to achieve those goals. We will also be exploring your family system, and the influenced around you, for both you and I to gain a complete perspective and understanding of your life. I believe that the therapy process is collaborative, which means that both the counselor and individuals must put in an equal amount of participation, allowing the therapeutic relationship to grow and strengthen. I believe that you are the author of your own experiences, and I can provide a safe and non-judgemental atmosphere. I am "spiritual" and do not follow any organized religion. However, I resonate with the Buddist thinking and way of life, which mirrors a great deal of my Christian upbringing. I am open to any / all persons who embrace their own spirituality and also their religious beliefs, because for me, counseling is not all about me, it is all about you!
About Me: I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I spent my internship working in a psychiatric day facility, where I gained experience in working with children, adolescents, and families using play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and collaborative problem solving. I currently hold memberships with the American Counseling Association, the Oregon Counseling Association and NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness). I also hold a certification in trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I am honored to work with Active Duty Military and Military Veterans. I work also with children, adolescents, adults, seniors, LGBT's and group therapy work. I have experience with a variety of issues including obsessive compulsive disorder, paranoia, agoraphobia, oppositional defiant disorder, pervasive developmental disorder, bi-polar disorder, mood disorders, personality disorders, sexual abuse, domestic violence, PTSD, addiction(s), grief, depression and other trauma.
I transitioned out of "Corporate America", banking of 32 years, in 2009. I held positions from entry level up through Branch Manager and Commercial Loan Officer/Credit Analyst. In 2009 I was provided an opportunity to embark on an educational journey studying Mental Health Counseling that has prepared me for the Counseling Profession. I felt and believed that it was time for me to "give back" to the community I reside as I have a natural desire and ability to help others. I also attended Saybrook University January 2014 through December 2015 studying a PhD program in Integrated Mental Health Counseling that focused on Mindfulness, Intentions, Meditation, Guided Imagery, and other holistic and somatic healing practices.
